Frequently Asked Questions

What is a feasibility study for a house extension?
A feasibility study tells you what you can build on your property, whether it is likely to need planning permission, what the main constraints are and what it may cost, before you spend money on detailed design.

Which RIBA stages does this pack cover?
RIBA Stage 0 (Strategic Definition), Stage 1 (Preparation and Briefing) and Stage 2 (Concept Design) of the RIBA Plan of Work.

How many design options will I receive?
We normally prepare three concept options, but we can prepare more or fewer depending on your project and preferences.

Will I know the cost of my project at this stage?
Yes. You receive an indicative budget covering construction costs and professional and statutory fees. It becomes more detailed and accurate at each following stage.

Do I need planning permission for my project?
It depends on the property and the works. Some extensions and loft conversions are permitted development, while properties in conservation areas or listed buildings usually need permission or consent. The feasibility pack sets out the right route for your project.
